Biodistribution and pulmonary metabolic effects of silver nanoparticles in mice following acute intratracheal instillations

Fernanda Rosario et al.

Summary: The study found that animals exposed to 5 nm AgNPs had higher levels of ionic silver in organs compared to those exposed to 50 nm AgNPs, while animals exposed to 50 nm AgNPs showed higher levels of silver in the blood. Furthermore, lung metabolic profiling revealed that AgNPs induced changes in various metabolites, indicating adaptation mechanisms and homeostasis recovery in response to AgNPs.

Respiratory and systemic impacts following MWCNT inhalation in B6C3F1/N mice

Christopher T. Migliaccio et al.

Summary: Following inhalation exposure to MWCNT, particles accumulated in the lungs, spleen, lymph nodes, and olfactory bulbs of mice, resulting in apoptosis in spleen cells and upregulation of inflammation-related genes. While lung inflammation was minimal, the low toxicity of MWCNT to lung macrophages may have facilitated migration to the spleen, causing spleen toxicity and systemic changes in inflammatory mediators.

Carbon Nanotube Exposure Triggers a Cerebral Peptidomic Response: Barrier Compromise, Neuroinflammation, and a Hyperexcited State

Ekaterina Mostovenko et al.

Summary: Exposure to multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) led to significant changes in the peptidomic profile of both blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), although the correlation between the two fluids was limited. Specifically, a distinct peptidomic shift induced by MWCNT was identified in the CSF, with 292 significant responses found that were unique to the CSF and not present in serum. Identified peptides in the CSF suggested mechanisms involving fibrinolysis, blood-brain barrier permeation, neuroinflammation, and an altered state of brain excitation-inhibition balance, consistent with early neurodegenerative disease.

Early Gestational Exposure to Inhaled Ozone Impairs Maternal Uterine Artery and Cardiac Function

Marcus Garcia et al.

Summary: Exposure to ozone during early placental formation in pregnancy can lead to more adverse cardiovascular effects in rats at term, with changes consistent with markers of preeclampsia. Additionally, exposure to 0.3 ppm ozone at GD10 induced late-stage cardiovascular outcomes in dams that were not seen in GD20-exposed dams.
