Improved up-and-down procedure for acute toxicity measurement with reliable LD50 verified by typical toxic alkaloids and modified Karber method

Yan-Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The reliability of an improved up-and-down procedure (iUDP) was tested in this study to provide a reliable method for measuring acute toxicity of valuable or minor amount compounds. The study compared the results of iUDP and a modified Karber method (mKM) in measuring the LD50 of three alkaloids. The results showed that iUDP could effectively replace mKM and provide comparable and reliable results for measuring the acute toxicity of substances.

Berberine-loaded M2 macrophage-derived exosomes for spinal cord injury therapy

Zhan-Shan Gao et al.

Summary: This study successfully designed berberine carried by M2-type macrophage-derived exosomes, which efficiently delivered the drug to the injured spinal cord, showing good anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects. The treatment significantly improved motor function in SCI mice, indicating that Exos-Ber is a potential therapeutic agent for SCI.
