The efficacy and heterogeneity of antipsychotic response in schizophrenia: A meta-analysis

Robert A. McCutcheon et al.

Summary: In schizophrenia, antipsychotic treatment shows greater improvement and lower variability in symptom change compared to placebo, indicating a relatively homogeneous effect of antipsychotic treatment in improving symptoms of schizophrenia. This contradicts the hypothesis of a subtype of antipsychotic non-responsive schizophrenia. Factors such as earlier publication date, younger patients, higher dose treatments, and greater mean difference in symptom change are associated with lower variability in antipsychotic-response relative to placebo.
