HLA repertoire of 115 UAE nationals infected with SARS-CoV-2

Halima Alnaqbi et al.

Summary: HLA alleles may play a role in viral susceptibility and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study examined the association between specific HLA alleles and susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 in a population from the UAE. Certain HLA alleles and supertypes showed statistical significance with the severity of the infection.

Characterizing the diversity of MHC conserved extended haplotypes using families from the United Arab Emirates

Halima Alnaqbi et al.

Summary: This study fills the knowledge gap of the structure and content of the MHC region in the UAE population, and identifies several CEHs in the population, including previously detected ones and novel ones. The results indicate substantial gene flow with neighboring ethnic groups and the presence of alleles and haplotypes associated with autoimmune diseases.

Current Perspective Regarding the Immunopathogenesis of Drug-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome/Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DIHS/DRESS)

Fumi Miyagawa et al.

Summary: DIHS/DRESS is a severe adverse drug reaction involving multiorgan involvement and human herpesvirus reactivation, which can lead to fatal complications. CD4 and CD8 T cells play distinct roles in the pathogenesis of DIHS/DRESS, with CD4 T cells initiating drug allergies and herpesvirus-specific CD8 T cells causing tissue damage.

A Comprehensive Review of HLA and Severe Cutaneous Adverse Drug Reactions: Implication for Clinical Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine

Chiraphat Kloypan et al.

Summary: HLA, encoded by the HLA gene, plays an important role in immune responses and drug hypersensitivity reactions. Genetic polymorphisms of HLA are widely varied at the population level and are associated with severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions, leading to the development of prescribing guidelines to facilitate the translation of HLA pharmacogenetics into clinical practice worldwide.

Summary: HLA-B*15:02 screening before prescribing CBZ to epilepsy patients in Indonesia is not cost-effective according to the cost-effectiveness model, but the positive outcomes in other Asian countries may influence the desirability of implementation in Indonesia despite the suboptimal cost-effectiveness.

HLA-associated adverse drug reactions - scoping review

Chiara Jeiziner et al.

Summary: A scoping review was conducted to investigate the association of HLA alleles with ADRs, with most studies focusing on the association of HLA-B*15:02 with carbamazepine. Due to heterogeneity in ADR definitions, HLA alleles, and study types, the results were summarized descriptively.

Genotyping HLA alleles to predict the development of Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs): state-of-the-art

Thawinee Jantararoungtong et al.

Summary: Pharmacogenomics has potential in reducing severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs) by revealing associations between HLA genes and SCARs. Guidelines from regulatory agencies and professional organizations are available for the translation of SCARs pharmacogenomics research into clinical practice. However, adopting HLA screening on a wider scale in clinical practice requires significant resources and evidence of cost-effectiveness.
