A New Coefficient of Correlation

Sourav Chatterjee

Summary: This article introduces a new coefficient of correlation that satisfies several desirable properties, such as simplicity, interpretability, and consistency under the hypothesis of independence. Unlike existing coefficients in the literature, this new coefficient does not require any assumptions on the distributions of the variables and converges to 0 only when the variables are independent.

Geological interpretation using multivariate K-means and robust factor analysis in Dezak area, SW Iran

Ghazal Hajnajafi et al.

Summary: The Dezak limestone area in Southwest Iran shows potential for an industrial survey project on Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC), but high-risk levels are involved due to the high purity of the limestone and the presence of penalty elements in the deposit. Geological and geochemical studies have identified suitable zones for limestone extraction, confirming the geological units and variations through multivariate K-means and factor analysis.

Concentration-distance from centroids (C-DC) multifractal modeling: A novel approach to characterizing geochemical patterns based on sample distance from mineralization

Behnam Sadeghi et al.

Summary: Various fractal models have been implemented to separate populations and characterize spatial distributions in geochemical data. This study compares the efficiency of the conventional number-size model with a proposed concentration-distance model in detecting geochemically anomalous populations, showing that the C-DC model provides classification accuracy similar to the N-S model. Monte Carlo simulation was used to quantify uncertainties in setting population thresholds using the two fractal models, demonstrating the greater efficiency of the C-DC model.

Simulated-multifractal models: A futuristic review of multifractal modeling in geochemical anomaly classification

Behnam Sadeghi

Summary: Various statistical methods, including fractal/multifractal techniques, have been applied to clustering of geochemical samples based on their elemental concentrations. Most classification models provide a single classification map whose precision and accuracy are unknown. Novel robust simulated-multifractal classification models have been introduced and reviewed for further consideration in geochemical anomaly classification.

Category-based fractal modelling: A novel model to integrate the geology into the data for more effective processing and interpretation

Behnam Sadeghi et al.

Summary: Parent lithology plays a significant role in controlling regolith geochemistry and can impact population boundaries. In regional geochemical mapping, a lack of key lithology samples may lead to interpolation errors, which can be addressed through category-based fractal modelling for more accurate population thresholds and anomalous class identification. The classification models using Monte Carlo simulation provide estimates for population breaks within a given lithological domain.
