Tunable broadband THz emission from air plasma pumped by femtosecond pulses composed of a fundamental frequency with its detuned second harmonic

Zhengquan Fan et al.

Summary: Both theoretically and experimentally, it has been shown that the central frequency of broadband THz pulses emitted by air plasma can be tuned by manipulating the spectrum of pump pulses. The relative phase of the optical frequencies plays a critical role in the yield and spectrum of the THz emission. Experimental results aligned with numerical simulations, indicating the effectiveness of this approach for tuning the spectrum of THz emissions from air plasma.

Water-Based Coherent Detection of Broadband Terahertz Pulses

Yong Tan et al.

Summary: In this study, a THz coherent detection scheme based on liquid water is proposed. The scheme offers high sensitivity and a wide frequency range for the time-resolved waveform of the THz field. It is sensitive to THz polarization and phase difference, and also demonstrates robustness and flexibility.

Below-threshold-harmonics-generation limitation due to laser-induced ionization in noble gases

Armando Valter Felicio Zuffi et al.

Summary: This work introduces and validates a model that explains the observed upper limitation of below-threshold harmonics emission from noble gases bound electrons in a restricted region of space. The model uses fundamental parameters from the gases and the laser beam, and accurately predicts an intensity threshold above which the increase in harmonics yield cannot be achieved by raising the laser power. This restraint is due to the depletion of electrons caused by laser-induced ionization, which exactly compensates for the increase in harmonics yield with excitation power.

Gas-plasma-based generation of broadband terahertz radiation with 640 mW average power

Joachim Buldt et al.

Summary: A high-power source of broadband terahertz radiation has been proposed, utilizing a gas plasma generation process. Leveraging an advanced ytterbium fiber chirped pulse amplification system, spectral broadening, pulse compression, and the highest average THz power to date have been achieved. This source is suitable for various applications including spectroscopy and material property studies.
