TRIB3 Is Highly Expressed in the Adipose Tissue of Obese Patients and Is Associated With Insulin Resistance

Seul Ki Lee et al.

Summary: The study investigated dysregulation of TRIB3 expression in human adipose tissue in the context of obesity and type 2 diabetes, and its association with insulin resistance. The results showed higher TRIB3 expression in fat depots of obese and/or type 2 diabetes patients, which was significantly associated with insulin resistance. Incubating adipocytes in conditions mimicking the obese adipose tissue microenvironment induced TRIB3 expression.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress increases LECT2 expression via ATF4

Chan Yoon Park et al.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is often related to obesity, insulin resistance, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Elevated levels of hepatokine leukocyte cell-derived chemotaxin-2 (LECT2) have been found in NAFLD patients, and the activation of ER stress/UPR signaling seems to induce LECT2 expression, with ATF4 potentially mediating the transcriptional upregulation.
