Long-term impacts of nitrogen fertilization and straw incorporation on rice production and nitrogen recovery efficiency under plastic film mulching cultivation

Yan Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that in the plastic film mulching cultivation system, combining nitrogen fertilizer application with straw incorporation can promote rice yield and nitrogen utilization efficiency, with the optimal nitrogen application rate being 135 kg ha(-1). Compared to conventional flooding cultivation, the promotion effect of nitrogen application on rice yield and nitrogen uptake in the PFMC system is more significant.

Film mulching, residue retention and N fertilization affect ammonia volatilization through soil labile N and C pools

Huitong Li et al.

Summary: Ammonia volatilization plays a crucial role in the nitrogen cycle in agricultural ecosystems and is closely related to atmospheric quality. Results showed that film mulching significantly reduced peaks in ammonia volatilization and cumulative NH3 loss, while also enhancing soil water content, soil temperature, mineral nitrogen, and microbial biomass nitrogen during wheat cultivation. Straw residue incorporation increased dissolved organic carbon and microbial biomass nitrogen, affecting soil NH4+-N content and ammonia emission.
