Heat transfer enhancement of symmetric and parallel wavy microchannel heat sinks with secondary branch design

Shuo-Lin Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of microchannel heat sinks with symmetric and parallel wavy microchannels across a range of Reynolds numbers. It is found that the symmetric configuration shows higher heat transfer enhancement compared to the parallel configuration, but also comes with a higher pressure penalty. Introducing secondary branch designs significantly enhances heat transfer performance for the parallel wavy configurations.

Effect of interface curvature on isothermal heat transfer in a hydrophobic microchannel with transverse ribs and cavities

M. G. Arun et al.

Summary: Superhydrophobic microchannels exhibit reduced frictional flow resistance due to entrapped air on their surface micro texture, but this air may negatively impact heat transfer performance. The shape of the menisci formed at the liquid-gas interface in these channels affects the thermo-hydraulic performance, with increased shear-free fraction leading to improved performance and concave menisci showing uniform Nusselt number. Ribbed hydrophobic channels outperform classical channels with uniform heating within a certain protrusion angle range.
