The regulation of ethylene biosynthesis: a complex multilevel control circuitry

Jolien Pattyn et al.

Summary: The biosynthesis of the plant hormone ethylene is controlled by a complex regulatory network involving transcriptional and posttranslational control of precursor synthesis enzymes and metabolic flux. Various factors, including transcription factors and posttranslational modifications, regulate the activity and stability of enzymes involved in ethylene production. Additionally, the nonproteinogenic amino acid ACC, a key intermediate in ethylene biosynthesis, is tightly regulated through conjugation and translocation processes.

Predictability of Biotic Stress Structures Plant Defence Evolution

Daan Mertens et al.

Summary: In order to achieve ecological and reproductive success, plants need to mitigate various stressors by incorporating predictable patterns of stress in their life histories. This can help optimize plant responses to dynamic environments where stressors vary predictably.

Differential Regulation of the Ribosomal Association of mRNA Transcripts in an Arabidopsis Mutant Defective in Jasmonate-Dependent Wound Response

Athen Kimberlin et al.

Summary: JA-Ile plays a crucial role in plants, and the cyp94b1cyp94b3 mutant disrupts this process. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses revealed that while the transcriptional response to wounding was largely unchanged in this mutant, multiple proteins were significantly reduced.

Maize Endochitinase Expression in Response to Fall Armyworm Herbivory

Yang Han et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of chitinase genes in maize to combat caterpillar damage. The results showed that chitinase transcript abundance and enzymatic activity increased in response to caterpillar feeding and mechanical wounding, indicating their role in enhancing plant resistance. Additionally, chitinase PRm3 found in Tx601 was identified as a potential insecticidal protein, suggesting its potential use in pest management strategies.

CRISPR-Cas9-Mediated Gene Editing of MYB28 Genes Impair Glucorarphanin Accumulation of Brassica oleracea in the Field

Mikhaela Neequaye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of MYB28 in regulating aliphatic glucosinolate biosynthesis in field-grown Brassica oleracea using CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology. Knocking out myb28 resulted in downregulation of A-GSL biosynthesis genes and reduction in glucoraphanin accumulation, while other sulfur compounds remained unchanged. These results demonstrate the potential of gene-editing approaches for improving crop performance based on fundamental biological discoveries.
