Interrogating cortical representations in elite athletes with persistent posterior thigh pain - New targets for intervention?

Simon J. Summers et al.

Summary: This study found leg-specific deficits in tactile, proprioceptive, and spatial processing in athletes with persistent posterior thigh pain. Despite rehabilitation and normal tissue healing time, these processing deficits persist, suggesting they may play a role in the persistence of posterior thigh pain.

Relationship between psychological factors and spinal motor behaviour in low back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Guillaume Christe et al.

Summary: Higher levels of pain-related fear, catastrophizing, and depression are significantly associated with reduced spinal movement amplitudes and increased muscle activity in low back pain patients. Pain intensity has a minimal independent association with spinal motor behavior, and the small effect sizes found in the meta-analyses question the role of psychological factors as major causes of spinal movement avoidance.

Chronic musculoskeletal impairment is associated with alterations in brain regions responsible for the production and perception of movement

Veronica Conboy et al.

Summary: This study used massive irreparable rotator cuff tear as a model to investigate the impact of chronic pain and motor impairment on the motor systems of the human brain. Results showed structural and functional differences in the motor control regions of patients with tears, as well as a relative impairment in visual motion perception and body form perception.

Normal manual straight ahead pointing in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Axel D. Vitterso et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that individuals with CRPS do not differ significantly from controls in MSA endpoint errors, and the arm used (Side of Body) does not have a significant impact on the results. In MSA tasks, pointing errors tend to be biased towards the hand being used.

Sensorimotor and body perception assessments of nonspecific chronic low back pain: a cross-sectional study

Summary: The study found that out of the three tests, only MCT was suitable for discriminating between nonspecific CLBP subjects and healthy controls. This simple clinical tool can help detect alterations in the sensorimotor system of nonspecific CLBP subjects and facilitate the development of tailored management strategies for this challenging LBP subgroup. Further research is needed to fully understand the potential of all the tests to detect alterations in the sensorimotor system of CLBP subjects.

Impairments in grip and pinch force accuracy and steadiness in people with osteoarthritis of the hand: A case-control comparison

Summary: This study found that patients with hand osteoarthritis have impaired force control (accuracy and steadiness) compared to healthy controls. There was a slight positive correlation between grip force control and the DASH questionnaire, but no association was found with measures of pain. Future studies may explore the relationship between objective measures of functional performance and force-matching error and steadiness.
