High harmonic generation in condensed matter

Summary: When solids are exposed to intense laser fields, nonlinear optics occurs and high-order harmonics are emitted from the bulk of materials. The study of this phenomenon has offered new possibilities for probing the electronic structure of solids and has led to advances in solid-state photonics. This review summarizes recent experimental and theoretical progress in this field and discusses potential future directions and applications.

Size-controlled quantum dots reveal the impact of intraband transitions on high-order harmonic generation in solids

Summary: This study investigates high harmonic generation (HHG) in CdSe and CdS quantum dots using mid-infrared laser pulses. The results demonstrate an increase in HHG intensity and generated carrier density with larger quantum dot size. Moreover, the reduction in sub-bandgap energy in larger quantum dots enhances intraband transitions, leading to enhanced HHG.
