Three-dimensional structure-guided evolution of a ribosome with tethered subunits

Do Soon Kim et al.

Summary: The study introduces a method called Evolink, which enables high-throughput evolution of sequence-distant regions in large macromolecular machines and guides library design through computational RNA modeling. This approach may enhance the engineering of macromolecular machines for new functions in synthetic biology.

Translational accuracy of a tethered ribosome

Celine Fabret et al.

Summary: Ribosomes are evolutionary conserved ribonucleoprotein complexes that function as two separate subunits in all kingdoms, responsible for translating messenger RNA. Recently, a tethered ribosome called Ribo-T was discovered in Escherichia coli, where the two subunits are covalently linked to form a single entity. The covalent attachment of the two subunits in Ribo-T modifies the properties of the ribosome, affecting its ability to correctly initiate and terminate translation.
