Lysosomal lipoprotein processing in endothelial cells stimulates adipose tissue thermogenic adaptation

Alexander W. Fischer et al.

Summary: This study reveals that vascular endothelial cells in adipose tissues internalize significant amounts of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles under cold exposure which lead to enhanced proliferation of endothelial cells and adipocyte precursors, ultimately impacting thermogenic capacity through a β-oxidation-dependent mechanism.

Brown adipose tissue is associated with cardiometabolic health

Tobias Becher et al.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of over 50,000 patients' F-18-FDG PET/CT scans revealed that individuals with brown adipose tissue had lower odds of cardiometabolic conditions. The presence of brown adipose tissue was independently correlated with lower odds of type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, cerebrovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and hypertension. The beneficial effects of brown adipose tissue were more pronounced in individuals with overweight or obesity, suggesting a potential role in mitigating the deleterious effects of obesity.

Endogenous Fatty Acid Synthesis Drives Brown Adipose Tissue Involution

Christian Schlein et al.

Summary: The study found that endogenous fatty acid synthesis is the central regulator of BAT involution, determining organelle turnover and function by transcriptional control of lipogenesis-related enzymes. ChREBP deficiency and pharmacological inhibition of lipogenesis preserved mitochondrial mass and thermogenic capacity of BAT during thermoneutral adaptation.
