Lamin B1 decline underlies age-related loss of adult hippocampal neurogenesis

Tracy A. Bedrosian et al.

Summary: The age-dependent decline of lamin B1 in adult neural stem/progenitor cells is associated with alterations in adult hippocampal neurogenesis and anxiety-like behavior in mice, indicating a role in stem cell aging and mood regulation.

Compromised nuclear envelope integrity drives TREX1-dependent DNA damage and tumor cell invasion

Guilherme Pedreira de Freitas Nader et al.

Summary: Nuclear envelope ruptures induced DNA damage in non-transformed cells promoting senescence and in human breast cancer cells inducing an invasive phenotype. The ER-associated exonuclease TREX1 translocated into the nucleus after rupture and was necessary for DNA damage induction. This study suggests that DNA damage in mechanically challenged nuclei may affect tissue pathophysiology by modulating proliferation and extracellular matrix degradation.

Aged skeletal stem cells generate an inflammatory degenerative niche

Thomas H. Ambrosi et al.

Summary: Aging of skeletal stem cells in mice alters bone marrow signaling and differentiation of bone and blood lineages, resulting in fragile bones with poor regeneration. Aged SSCs have decreased bone-forming potential but produce more stromal lineages expressing pro-inflammatory cytokines, contributing to bone marrow niche transformation.

The cGAS-STING pathway as a therapeutic target in inflammatory diseases

Alexiane Decout et al.

Summary: The cGAS-STING signaling pathway plays a crucial role in inflammation in infection, cellular stress, and tissue damage settings. It has the ability to sense and regulate cellular responses to DNA and has the potential to be targeted in the treatment of various inflammatory diseases.
