Nonmetal oxygen vacancies confined under boron nitride for enhanced oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propene

Qiuwen Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, oxygen vacancies-rich BPO4 hollow spheres covered with few-layer hexagonal boron nitride (BN) were prepared, showing better catalytic activity and selectivity in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propene compared to commercial BN due to the synergistic effect between oxygen vacancies-rich BPO4 and h-BN. Oxygen vacancies enhance propane adsorption while the confined space at the interface weakens propene adsorption, facilitating active site recycling. The confined space and oxygen vacancies also lead to a transformation in the reaction kinetic model.

Modulating the crystallinity of boron nitride for propane oxidative dehydrogenation

Tian-Chang Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic performance of h-BN in propane oxidative dehydrogenation was improved by modulating the catalyst crystallinity, leading to a significant increase in propane conversion rate. Additionally, the high crystallinity of BN was proven to be beneficial for O-2 binding, reducing the energy barrier for O-2 activation.

Interfacial thermal conductance enhancement of BN/PVA composites via plasma activations of fillers

Chenyang Xu et al.

Summary: Plasma activations can effectively functionalize BN and change its hydrophobicity to hydrophilicity, achieving interfacial bonding between plasma-treated BN fillers and polyvinyl alcohol molecules. The BN/polyvinyl alcohol composite material shows a high through-plane thermal conductivity of 2.4 W m(-1) K-1 for a filling fraction of 50 wt% BN treated by N-2 plasma, offering a promising approach for the high-efficiency and low-cost fabrication of BN-based composite materials.

Nematicity and competing orders in superconducting magic-angle graphene

Yuan Cao et al.

Summary: In magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, intertwined phases with broken rotational symmetry have been identified, showing strong thermodynamic anisotropy and appearing above the underdoped region of the superconducting dome. A reduction in critical temperature is observed when it intersects with the superconducting dome, with the superconducting state exhibiting anisotropic response to in-plane magnetic fields, suggesting nematic ordering plays a significant role in the low-temperature phases of magic-angle TBG.

Isolated boron in zeolite for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane

Hang Zhou et al.

Summary: Isolated boron in a zeolite framework without B-O-B oligomers exhibits high activity and selectivity for oxidative dehydrogenation of propane (ODHP). The boron-silicon bonding structure hinders boron leaching in a humid atmosphere, enhancing catalyst durability. The -B[OH center dot center dot center dot O(H)-Si](2) structure in borosilicate zeolite serves as the active center for activating oxygen and carbon-hydrogen bonds to catalyze ODHP.

Jinshu Tian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that oxidized boron species in boron-based catalysts serve as active sites for highly selective olefin formation. Furthermore, the high selectivity of olefins in ODHP on such catalysts is attributed to the suppressed adsorption of olefins on >B-O-O-B< sites.
