In situ manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface with atomic precision during CO oxidation

Wentao Yuan et al.

Summary: The interface between metal catalyst and support is critical in heterogeneous catalysis. The study found that the atomic structure of the Au-TiO2 interface depends on the epitaxial rotation of gold nanoparticles on a TiO2 surface during CO oxidation. Manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface was achieved in situ by changing gas and temperature, suggesting real-time design of catalytic interface in operating conditions may be possible.

Summary: The broken inversion symmetry and time-reversal symmetry along with the large spin-orbit interactions in monolayer MoS2 make it an ideal candidate for novel valleytronic applications. The integration of PMA electrodes results in very-low Schottky barrier height in MoS2-based field-effect transistor devices.

Degradation by Kinking in Layered Cathode Materials

Yanshuai Li et al.

Summary: Layered cathode materials, such as Na-NMC, commonly used in lithium and sodium ion batteries, can experience mechanical degradation due to electrochemically induced buckling and delamination cracking of intercalation layers. The formation of kinks in the delaminated layers, resulting from severe local bending and dislocations, is observed during in situ mechanical compression experiments. This new degradation mechanism highlights the importance of addressing weak interlayer bonding to mitigate degradation in layered cathode materials.

Elucidation of Active Sites for CH4 Catalytic Oxidation over Pd/CeO2 Via Tailoring Metal-Support Interactions

Shiyuan Chen et al.

Summary: The structure of PdOx nanoparticles loaded on CeO2 nanocrystals of different shapes was systematically studied using Cs-corrected HRTEM/STEM, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. The active sites for methane catalytic oxidation were found to be morphology-dependent on the CeO2 supports, with Pd2+ species identified as the active centers. Additionally, the chemical states of Pd can be tuned through interactions with CeO2 in oxidizing/reducing atmospheres.

Moire excitons in defective van der Waals heterostructures

Hongli Guo et al.

Summary: Excitons in van der Waals heterostructures can be trapped by both moire and defect potentials, with their interplay modulating optoelectronic properties. The competition and cooperation of these two potentials can be controlled by vertical electric fields, offering the possibility to tune exciton localization. Additionally, defect engineering can further tailor the interplay of these potentials to create one-dimensional exciton lattices with tunable orientations, showing promise for on-demand optoelectronic responses.

Designing artificial two-dimensional landscapes via atomic substitution

Yunfan Guo et al.

Summary: This research introduces a new method for atomic-layer substitution at room temperature, resulting in Janus monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides with vertical dipole. The method can also be used to create multiheterostructures with different crystal symmetry and electric polarization. Experimental results demonstrate high fidelity in the precise single atomic layer conversion achieved with this new approach.

Enhanced photoresponse of TiO2/MoS2 heterostructure phototransistors by the coupling of interface charge transfer and photogating

Bingxu Liu et al.

Summary: The high-performance MoS2-based phototransistor with enhanced photoresponse is achieved by interfacing few-layer MoS2 with an ultrathin TiO2 layer. The significantly improved photoresponse of the TiO2/MoS2 device is attributed to both interface charge transfer and photogating effects. These findings provide valuable insights into interactions at TiO2/MoS2 interface and may inspire the development of novel optoelectronic devices based on 2D layered materials.
