A fire-retarding electrolyte using triethyl phosphate as a solvent for sodium-ion batteries

Kang Du et al.

Summary: We introduced a fire-retarding phosphate-based electrolyte with 1 M NaBF4 in triethyl phosphate and 3% vinylene carbonate as an SEI-forming additive for sodium-ion batteries. This electrolyte formulation achieved stable cycling performance with a capacity of 80.5 mA h g(-1) and a retention of 77.8% after 200 cycles in the Na-ion full cell of Na3.2V1.8Zn0.2(PO4)(3)vs. hard carbon.

Advanced Ultralow-Concentration Electrolyte for Wide-Temperature and High-Voltage Li-Metal Batteries

Zhicheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully addresses the limitations of commercial carbonate electrolytes by fabricating a novel ultralow-concentration electrolyte with low cost, non-flammability, wide temperature operation window, and high electrochemical window. It also suppresses Li dendrite growth. The Li metal battery using this electrolyte shows outstanding performance under high voltage and wide temperature range.

Robust interphase on both anode and cathode enables stable aqueous lithium-ion battery with coulombic efficiency exceeding 99%

Yunfu Huang et al.

Summary: Recent breakthroughs in water-in-salt electrolyte (WiSE) have enabled highly-safe aqueous Li-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the long-term cycling stability of these batteries is limited by the Coulombic efficiency (CE) at low current density. This study reports a urea-containing-WiSE that achieves a high CE in aqueous LIBs operated at a low rate, suggesting the possibility of cheaper and more durable aqueous batteries.

Delithiation-driven topotactic reaction endows superior cycling performances for high-energy-density FeSx (1 ≤ x ≤ 1.14) cathodes

Jian Zou et al.

Summary: This study reports a topotactic reaction as a method to improve cycling performance of high-energy-density lithium metal battery cathodes. A series of transition metal monosulfides are synthesized and FeS is found to undergo fully reversible reaction, leading to complete reaction through a topotactic reaction. Experimental results show FeS exhibits a capacity retention of 82% after 700 cycles at 1C, demonstrating excellent battery performance.

Intrinsically Nonflammable Ionic Liquid-Based Localized Highly Concentrated Electrolytes Enable High-Performance Li-Metal Batteries

Zhicheng Wang et al.

Summary: An intrinsically nonflammable ionic liquid-based localized highly concentrated electrolyte (LHCE) has been designed, which significantly improves the performance of Li-metal batteries (LMBs) by enhancing ionic conductivity and suppressing Li dendrite growth. The LHCE exhibits high Coulombic efficiency and stable cycling performance over thousands of cycles, making it suitable for various LMB systems. This electrolyte shows great potential for practical application in high-performance batteries.
