Epitaxial Growth of Ultraflat Bismuthene with Large Topological Band Inversion Enabled by Substrate-Orbital-Filtering Effect

Shuo Sun et al.

Summary: Large-gap QSH systems were successfully fabricated by utilizing the substrate-orbital-filtering effect, which selectively filters Bi pz orbitals to generate pxy orbitals with nonzero magnetic quantum numbers. This strategy provides a general approach for designing large-gap QSH systems and exploring their topology-related physics.

Disorder effects of vacancies on the electronic transport properties of realistic topological insulator nanoribbons: The case of bismuthene

Armando Pezo et al.

Summary: The study found that in narrow nanoribbons, even small vacancy concentrations can lead to the breakdown of topological protection; while in wide nanoribbons, topological protection is more robust, but moderate structural disorder can still break it down.

Valley relaxation of resident electrons and holes in a monolayer semiconductor: Dependence on carrier density and the role of substrate-induced disorder

Jing Li et al.

Summary: This study uses time-resolved optical Kerr rotation to measure the valley dynamics of resident electrons and holes in exfoliated WSe2 monolayers as a systematic function of carrier density in different dielectric environments. The results show that the valley relaxation time decreases rapidly at high carrier densities, and the difference in relaxation behavior is attributed to environmental disorder from the substrate. Unexpectedly, out-of-plane magnetic fields can increase the valley relaxation time, especially in monolayers placed directly on silicon dioxide, indicating the important role of disorder-induced localized states in depolarizing spins and mediating carrier valley relaxation in monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenide semiconductors.

Time-resolved ARPES Determination of a Quasi-Particle Band Gap and Hot Electron Dynamics in Monolayer MoS2

Woojoo Lee et al.

Summary: This study utilizes sensitive time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to investigate MoS2 monolayers, revealing QBG values of approximately 2.10 eV at 80 K and around 2.03 eV at 300 K, well-supported by scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements on the same material.
