An encapsulating lithium-polysulfide electrolyte for lithium-sulfur batteries

Li-Peng Hou et al.

Summary: This study proposes an encapsulating LiPS electrolyte (EPSE) to suppress parasitic reactions between lithium metal anodes and soluble LiPS based on a nano-heterogeneous solvation structure design. The addition of reduction-stable DIPS in the outer solvent shell significantly inhibits the parasitic reactions between encapsulated LiPS and lithium metal. Experimental results show that a lithium-sulfur battery with EPSE can undergo 103 cycles under demanding conditions.

Array-Structured Double-Ion Cooperative Adsorption Sites as Multifunctional Sulfur Hosts for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries with Low Electrolyte/Sulfur Ratio

Junling Guo et al.

Summary: A Na2Ti6O13 (NTO) nanowire array is developed to address the problems caused by low electrolyte/sulfur ratio (E/S) in lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs), such as shuttle effect and limited sulfur utilization. NTO exhibits accelerated conversion of polysulfides, enhanced adsorption, improved electron transport, and increased sulfur utilization, leading to high cycle life and shelf-life at low E/S. Engineering d-p Orbital Hybridization in Single-Atom Metal-Embedded Three-Dimensional Electrodes for Li-S Batteries

Zhiyuan Han et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the d-p orbital hybridization between single-atom metals and sulfur species can serve as a descriptor for understanding the catalytic activity of SACs in Li-S batteries. Transition metals with lower atomic numbers, such as titanium, have been found to effectively bind lithium polysulfides and catalyze their electrochemical reaction. Single-atom metal catalysts embedded in three-dimensional electrodes prepared through a nitrogen coordination approach show high catalytic activity and low catalyst loading for improved sulfur utilization in Li-S batteries.
