Laser communication with Proxima and Alpha Centauri using the solar gravitational lens

Geoffrey W. Marcy et al.

Summary: A search for laser signals from the regions of the sky opposite Proxima and Alpha Centauri, located at the foci of the gravitational lensing caused by the Sun, using objective prism telescopes did not detect any light pulses or continuous laser emission within the wavelength range of 380-950 nm. This non-detection complements a previous search for laser light coming directly from Proxima Centauri.

A search for monochromatic light towards the Galactic Centre

Geoffrey W. Marcy et al.

Summary: A search for monochromatic optical light in a region towards the Galactic Centre was conducted, but no signals were detected. This non-detection is consistent with previous non-detections in optical SETI, forming a growing SETI desert in the optical domain.

Analysis of the Breakthrough Listen signal of interest blc1 with a technosignature verification framework

Sofia Z. Sheikh et al.

Summary: A radio signal detected in the direction of Proxima Centauri in a Breakthrough Listen programme is analysed for signs that it was transmitted by extraterrestrial intelligent life, using a newly developed framework. However, the signal 'blc1' is likely to be terrestrial radio-frequency interference.

Multistep pulse compressor for 10s to 100s PW lasers

Jun Liu et al.

Summary: A new multistep pulse compressor (MPC) design is proposed to increase the maximum bearable input and output pulse energies by modifying their spatiotemporal properties, which can simplify the compressor, improve stability, and save expensive optics. The output pulse energy can be increased by about 4 times using the MPC method in comparison to a typical compressor, and it is expected to achieve several 100s PW laser beam by using this method in the future, further extending ultra-intense laser physics research fields.

A search for optical laser emission from Proxima Centauri

G. W. Marcy

Summary: A search for laser light from Proxima Centauri was conducted, revealing unexpected spectral 'combs' caused by optical ghosts originating with the interferometric etalon filter in the telescope. Despite no evidence of laser emissions, future observers must be wary of contamination.

A Search for Technosignatures around 31 Sun-like Stars with the Green Bank Telescope at 1.15-1.73 GHz

Jean-Luc Margot et al.

Summary: The study conducted a search for technosignatures using the Green Bank Telescope, focusing on Sun-like stars near the plane of the Galaxy. Improved data processing pipeline and signal detection procedure led to a significant increase in signal detection count and accurate classification of recovered signals as technosignature candidates. The study compares favorably to other recent searches in terms of sensitivity and signal detection count per unit bandwidth per unit integration time.
