Observations of Phobos and Deimos with SpeX at NASA infrared telescope facility

Summary: By measuring the near-infrared reflectance spectra of Phobos and Deimos, this study aims to investigate their surface composition and mineralogical absorption signatures. Evidence of hydration was found in Deimos' LXD spectra, possibly attributed to exogenic or endogenic sources. However, no absorption signatures of mafic silicates, organics, or carbonates were observed in the prism and LXD spectra of Phobos and Deimos.

The formation of H2O and Si-OH by H2+ irradiation in major minerals of carbonaceous chondrites

Summary: This study experimental investigated the effects of hydrogen irradiation on the spectral modification of hydrous silicate minerals, simulating the implantation of solar wind protons onto parent bodies of carbonaceous chondrites. The results showed that hydrogen irradiation affected the structure of silicate minerals, implying the possibility of H2O formation on anhydrous silicate mineral surfaces as well.

The Tarda Meteorite: A Window into the Formation of D-type Asteroids

Summary: Through the study of Tarda, it is found that it shares strong similarities with the D-type-related chondrite Tagish Lake, implying that Tarda is a rare sample of D-type asteroids. The outer solar system 4.56 Gy ago was characterized by large-scale oxygen isotopic homogeneities, with the zone where D-type asteroids accreted significantly enriched in deuterium.

The Role of Hydrated Minerals and Space Weathering Products in the Bluing of Carbonaceous Asteroids

Summary: The surfaces of airless bodies like carbonaceous asteroids can become spectrally bluer due to the presence of nanophase magnetite and microphase troilite as a result of space weathering. The OSIRIS-REx mission's spectral data on Bennu suggests the presence of these space weathering products. Samples returned from Bennu are expected to have more nanophase magnetite, while samples from the red spectral Ryugu are predicted to contain more nanophase iron and sulfides.
