The ZTF-BTS Type Ia supernovae luminosity function is consistent with a single progenitor channel for the explosions

Amir Sharon et al.

Summary: In this study, we construct the luminosity function of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) using the Zwicky Transient Facility Bright Transient Survey (BTS) catalogue. By calculating the intrinsic luminosities from the shape parameters of the light curve's g and r bands, we bypass the uncertainties in distance and host extinction estimation. We also determine the distribution of synthesized Ni-56 mass in SNe Ia using a novel relation between the color stretch and Ni-56 mass. The results show that the luminosity functions of SNe Ia are unimodal and have a high extinction, indicating their young population origin.

Metallicity-dependent nucleosynthetic yields of Type Ia supernovae originating from double detonations of sub-MCh white dwarfs

Sabrina Gronow et al.

Summary: The study explores the potential explosion mechanisms of Type Ia supernovae from sub-Chandrasekhar mass carbon-oxygen white dwarfs and finds a significant impact of progenitor metallicity on nucleosynthetic yields. Experimental data demonstrate a strong influence of metallicity on yields, with an increase in Mn-55 production with metallicity. The results suggest that the contribution of Type Ia supernovae from these white dwarfs might be lower than previously estimated.

Multidimensional Parameter Study of Double Detonation Type Ia Supernovae Originating from Thin Helium Shell White Dwarfs

Samuel J. Boos et al.

Summary: The study investigates the feasibility of double detonation scenario in Type Ia supernovae by simulating thin-He-shell, sub-Chandrasekhar-mass white dwarf progenitors. The results confirm the viability of double detonation across a range of parameter space and provide bulk yields and ejecta profiles for each progenitor. Significant differences in the high-velocity extent of postdetonation products across different lines of sight are found, indicating the impact of viewing angle on observable characteristics.

Double detonations of sub-MCh CO white dwarfs: variations in Type Ia supernovae due to different core and He shell masses

Sabrina Gronow et al.

Summary: The study investigates the role of sub-Chandrasekhar mass carbon-oxygen white dwarfs with a surface helium shell as the progenitors of Type Ia supernovae. By conducting parameter studies using hydrodynamic simulations and including carbon mixtures in the shell as well as solar metallicity, it is found that the production of different elements in the explosive yields is influenced by the core and shell masses. Furthermore, the models predict a range of brightnesses in bolometric light curves, accounting for subluminous to normal brightness SNe Ia, with asymmetries in the ejecta structure contributing to the observed diversity of outcomes.
