On the Diversity of Mixing and Helium Core Masses of B-type Dwarfs from Gravity-mode Asteroseismology

May G. Pedersen

Summary: The internal mixing profiles of oscillating stars observed by the Kepler space telescope have been studied to investigate their distinguishability and to predict the expected helium core masses at the end of the main-sequence evolution. The results show ambiguous differentiation in the mixing profiles and emphasize the significant influence of envelope mixing estimation on the helium core masses.

Massive heartbeat stars from TESS: I. TESS sectors 1-16

P. A. Kolaczek-Szymanski et al.

Summary: This study identified 20 massive heartbeat systems, with 7 exhibiting TEOs, using TESS data from the first 16 sectors and a sample of over 300 eccentric spectroscopic binaries. The results open up new possibilities for probing the interiors of massive stars and studying the interaction between pulsation and binarity in these systems.

Simon J. Murphy et al.

Summary: HD139614 is a possibly pre-main-sequence star in the Sco-Cen OB association with a slightly warped circumstellar disc containing ring structures hinting at one or more planets. The star's chemical abundance pattern and pulsation modes have been studied to determine its nature and provide insights into its properties.

Probing the interior physics of stars through asteroseismology

C. Aerts

Summary: High-precision brightness measurements collected over years using telescopes in space have enabled astronomers to study the physics of stellar interiors through nonradial oscillations. The field of asteroseismology has provided new insights into how stars rotate and evolve chemically. Data-driven space asteroseismology has significantly improved computer models of star evolution, which are crucial for various research fields in space science and have potential applications in the search for extraterrestrial life and studies of supernova progenitors.

Variability of newly identified B-type stars observed by Kepler

Wojciech Szewczuk et al.

Summary: Recent re-determination of stellar atmospheric parameters during the Kepler mission has led to the discovery of more Kepler B-type stars. These stars exhibit pulsational variability, with high-order g modes being dominant and some low-order p/g modes also present. Patterns in the oscillation spectra associated with period spacings resulting from the asymptotic nature of the detected pulsational modes have been identified. The observed oscillation characteristics have been tentatively compared to predictions from linear non-adiabatic computations of stellar pulsations, with the effects of rotation on frequency values and mode instability considered for high-order g modes using the traditional approximation.

BRITE observations of ν Centauri and γ Lupi, the first non-eclipsing members of the new class of nascent binaries

M. Jerzykiewicz et al.

Summary: This study reports the results of analyzing the photometry and radial-velocity observations of two single-lined spectroscopic binary systems, nu Centauri and gamma Lupi, showing that both exhibit light variations with the orbital period. The variations are caused by the reflection effect due to the heating of the secondary's hemisphere by the primary component's light. Modeling of the light curves, along with fundamental parameters of the primary components obtained from literature data, indicates that the secondary components are pre-main sequence stars transitioning onto the main sequence.

Internal mixing of rotating stars inferred from dipole gravity modes

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.
