Detailed models of interacting short-period massive binary stars

K. Sen et al.

Summary: This study uses a large grid of models to derive probability distributions of the observable properties of massive Algols and their descendants. The results show that approximately 30% of core hydrogen burning O-star binaries in the LMC are currently in the semi-detached phase. The research also investigates the efficiency of mass transfer and semiconvective mixing in the stellar interior.

V606 Cen: A Newly Formed Massive Contact Binary in a Hierarchical Triple System

F-X Li et al.

Summary: Using continuous light curve obtained by TESS, we identified V606 Centauri as a marginal contact binary with a very low fill-out factor. By analyzing the O-C diagram constructed from eclipse times, we found a downward parabolic change and a cyclic oscillation. These findings suggest that V606 Centauri is a newly formed contact binary through mass transfer and is part of a hierarchical triple system.

Semidetached Mass-transfer Massive Binaries in the Nearby Galaxy M31

F-X Li et al.

Summary: By analyzing the light curves of 12 eclipsing binaries in the Andromeda galaxy, it is discovered that they are semidetached binaries. The mass ratio of the primary stars is correlated with their fill-out factor, and the secondary components are more evolved than the primary ones, indicating mass-reverse evolution.

First photometric investigation of two short-period eclipsing binaries ASAS J105115-6032.1 and GDS J1056047-604149

Fu-Xing Li et al.

Summary: ASAS J1051 and GDS J1056 are two short-period contact binaries near each other in the Antarctic sky area. They are both W-type contact binaries with significant degree of contact. The asymmetry in the light curve of GDS J1056 is interpreted as a dark spot on the more massive component. O-C diagram analysis reveals an increase in orbital period for ASAS J1051 and a decrease in orbital period for GDS J1056, accompanied by cyclic period changes.

Orbital parameters of the hierarchical triplet system CN Lyn

WenPing Liao et al.

Summary: CN Lyn is a triplet system with an eccentric orbit for the third body, with an orbital inclination of 25 degrees, indicating non-coplanarity with the central binary orbit. The system has a low metallicity of only about 21.5% of the solar metallicity, indicating rare composition and orbital properties that can provide valuable information on the formation of multiple star systems.

Rapid mass transfer between the twin components in the hierarchical triple system GK Cep

E-G Zhao et al.

Summary: GK Cep is an eclipsing binary system with two A-type components, showing characteristics of a near-contact semidetached system. Analysis of the light curve and eclipse times suggest that GK Cep is likely in a key evolutionary state post rapid mass transfer, with a triple stellar system configuration.

Is the eclipsing binary RR Dra dancing with a hidden tertiary black hole candidate?

Zhi-Hua Wang et al.

Summary: The analysis of RR Dra, an eclipsing binary system, suggests the presence of a third object with a mass of at least 3.5 solar masses, orbiting the central binary pair once every 98 years. Despite being massive, the third component is invisible in optical wavelengths and contributes only about 2% of the total luminosity. Evidence of misalignment between the barycenter and center of light of the system hints at the existence of a hidden black hole candidate.

HL Dra: an active Algol-like binary system with a pulsating component star and a cool third body

Xiang-dong Shi et al.

Summary: HL Draconis is an Algol-like binary system with a mass ratio of 0.361, where the secondary component exhibits strong magnetic activities. The O-C curve shows a sinusoidal variation potentially caused by the presence of a cool red dwarf third body. A total of 252 pulsation frequencies, including tidal interactions, were detected from high-precision TESS photometric data, highlighting the system's significance for further studies on binary formation, evolution, and tidal interactions.
