CHANG-ES XXIII: influence of a galactic wind in NGC 5775

G. H. Heald et al.

Summary: New radio continuum images of the edge-on starburst galaxy NGC 5775 were presented, revealing the extent of the non-thermal radio halo and estimating the magnetic field strength. An updated model incorporating an iso-thermal wind with a 'flux tube' geometry suggests that the wind influences the cosmic ray propagation and mass flow of interstellar material.

Extended X-Ray Emission Associated with the Radio Lobes and the Environments of 60 Radio Galaxies

Ajay Gill et al.

Summary: This study focused on a sample of radio galaxies and found that the nonthermal X-ray emission from the radio lobes dominates the thermal X-ray emission from the environment in a majority of the sources. The relative amount of nonthermal emission from the radio lobes tends to increase with redshift compared to the thermal emission, suggesting that the primary mechanism for the nonthermal X-ray emission is due to inverse Compton scattering of cosmic microwave background photons by relativistic electrons in the radio lobes, which is roughly redshift independent due to increasing CMB energy density with redshift.

Chandra large-scale mapping of the Galactic Centre: probing high-energy structures around the central molecular zone

Q. Daniel Wang

Summary: Recent observations have shown interstellar features that connect energetic activity in the central region of our Galaxy to its halo, although the nature of these features remains uncertain. Chandra mapping has revealed a complex of X-ray-emitting threads and plume-like structures coming from the Galactic Center, indicating that magnetic field re-connection is likely the energy source. Studying the morphological and spectral properties of the radio/X-ray association may provide insights into processes such as interstellar plasma heating, cosmic ray acceleration, and turbulence.
