Long-term X-ray spectral evolution of ultraluminous X-ray sources: implications on the accretion flow geometry and the nature of the accretor

A. Gurpide et al.

Summary: By studying the long-term X-ray spectral evolution of ULXs, we find that the hardest sources in our sample may be powered by strongly magnetised NSs, while softer sources may be explained by weakly magnetised NSs or BHs.

Observations of a radio-bright, X-ray obscured GRS 1915+105

S. E. Motta et al.

Summary: GRS 1915+105, a Galactic black hole transient, has been active since its X-ray outburst in 1992. Recent radio and X-ray data indicate a transition to a low-luminosity canonical hard state with heavy X-ray absorption/obscuration, potentially resembling super-Eddington states seen in X-ray binaries SS433 or V404 Cyg. The radio-X-ray correlation suggests that a local absorber may be hiding the accretion processes responsible for the observed radio flaring.

NuSTAR reveals the hidden nature of SS433

M. J. Middleton et al.

Summary: SS433 is the only known Galactic binary system that persistently accretes at highly super-critical rates. Observations with NuSTAR in the hard X-ray band across multiple phases revealed intriguing findings about the system's inner regions. The discovery of a narrow, approximately 100 second lag provides insight into atomic processes in outflowing material, potentially allowing for the mapping of a super-critical outflow for the first time.

Broadband X-ray spectral variability of the pulsing ULX NGC 1313 X-2

A. Robba et al.

Summary: The study reveals that ULXs are mainly powered by super-Eddington accreting neutron stars or black holes. By investigating the spectral evolution of NGC 1313 X-2, insights into the structure of the accretion disc are gained. The baseline model provides a good description of the X-ray spectra.

Summary: Most ultraluminous X-ray sources are believed to be accreting stellar mass black holes or neutron stars, and timing analysis can provide insight into the nature of the compact object and accretion processes.
