Effect of the replacement of tripodal 4N donors by two 2N chelators on the redox and cytotoxic activity of maltolato and deferipronato containing Co(III) complexes

Sandor Nagy et al.

Summary: Fourteen novel Co-III ternary complexes with different ligands were synthesized and characterized, revealing their molecular structures and redox properties. X-ray diffraction analysis showed the expected octahedral geometry, and the replacement of 4N donor ligands with 2N donor ligands resulted in easier reduction of the complexes, indicating tailoring of their redox properties. Screening against a human derived cancer cell line demonstrated that complexes containing bipy or phen ligands have better anticancer activity than cisplatin or carboplatin.

A critical review of palladium organometallic anticancer agents

Thomas Scattolin et al.

Summary: Organopalladium compounds have gained significant attention as potential anticancer agents due to their high stability under physiological conditions, showing promising antiproliferative activity toward cisplatin-sensitive and cisplatin-resistant tumors, and sometimes exhibiting a different mechanism of action compared to platinum-based drugs. Recent advances in this field are discussed in this review.
