Acacetin attenuates diabetes-induced cardiomyopathy by inhibiting oxidative stress and energy metabolism via PPAR-α/AMPK pathway

Fei Song et al.

Summary: Acacetin has therapeutic effect on diabetic cardiomyopathy by inhibiting oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, and may achieve this effect by increasing the expression of PPAR-α and pAMPK. This study demonstrates the new application of acacetin for treating diabetic cardiomyopathy.

DGAT1 inhibitors protect pancreatic β-cells from palmitic acid-induced apoptosis

Jun-shang Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that DGAT1 inhibitors have potential beneficial effects on pancreatic beta-cells by reducing apoptosis and improving glucose metabolism. These inhibitors also showed antidiabetic effects in db/db mice by decreasing fasting blood glucose and TG levels, and enhancing glucose and insulin tolerance. Additionally, DGAT1 inhibitors alleviated intracellular lipid accumulation, ER stress, and proinflammatory responses in beta-cells, indicating their protective effects in diabetes.

Molecular Mechanisms of Apoptosis Induction and Its Regulation by Fatty Acids in Pancreatic β-Cells

Jan Sramek et al.

Summary: Chronic exposure to high concentrations of fatty acids can lead to dysfunction and death of pancreatic beta-cells. Saturated fatty acids promote apoptosis, while unsaturated fatty acids have a protective effect. The involvement of ER stress, the mitochondrial pathway, and multiple signaling pathways in this process is suggested.

Current Status of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Type II Diabetes

Sagir Mustapha et al.

Summary: The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is vital for cellular functions, but disruptions in its homeostasis can lead to ER stress, linked to diseases like cancer, obesity, and diabetes. The mechanisms of ER stress related to chronic hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia in type II diabetes remain unclear.

Chop/Ddit3 depletion in β cells alleviates ER stress and corrects hepatic steatosis in mice

Jing Yong et al.

Summary: The deletion of Chop gene in beta cells alleviates ER stress and delays glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, preventing the development of fatty liver disease. This study suggests that targeting Chop in beta cells could be a potential therapeutic strategy for improving insulin secretion and preventing complications in type 2 diabetes.

Effects of Lipid Deposition on Viscoelastic Response in Human Hepatic Cell Line HepG2

Rui Li et al.

Summary: Hepatic steatosis is associated with various liver diseases and is characterized by excessive lipid accumulation. Ultrasound is commonly used for diagnosis, but current methods are not accurate enough for cases with light lipid infiltration, possibly due to unknown effects of lipid infiltration on the mechanical properties of hepatocytes. Studies using atomic force microscope and lipid deposition models have shown that even slight lipid accumulation can decrease stiffness and increase fluidity in liver cells, potentially providing new insights into grading hepatic steatosis and future diagnostic indicators.

Yunjin Zhang et al.

Summary: Chronic exposure to high concentrations of circulating palmitic acid and stearic acid can impair beta cell function, leading to the development of type 2 diabetes. This study revealed differential expression of circRNAs involved in beta cell dysfunction induced by palmitic acid and stearic acid, as well as identified potential therapeutic targets for treating high fat diet-induced beta cell injury.
