Metformin reduces lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells via downregulation of miR-33b

Mina Zare et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the role of miR-33b in mediating the beneficial effects of metformin on lipid accumulation. We found that metformin reduces lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells through downregulation of miR-33b. These findings highlight the importance of miR-33b in lipid metabolism.

Metformin and Cancer Hallmarks: Molecular Mechanisms in Thyroid, Prostate and Head and Neck Cancer Models

Mirian Galliote Morale et al.

Summary: Metformin is the most widely used drug for type 2 diabetes and has shown antitumor activity in various types of cancer cells. In vitro studies have demonstrated that metformin regulates almost all hallmarks of cancer and has the potential to synergize with other chemotherapeutic agents.

Aerobic training improves NAFLD markers and insulin resistance through AMPK-PPAR-alpha signaling in obese mice

Tiego Aparecido Diniz et al.

Summary: Aerobic training (AT) can improve liver steatosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), reduce weight gain, improve plasma lipid concentrations and whole-body insulin resistance, and slow down the progression of fatty liver, enhancing metabolic activity through multiple signaling pathways.

Metformin and Probiotics Interplay in Amelioration of Ethanol-Induced Oxidative Stress and Inflammatory Response in an In Vitro and In Vivo Model of Hepatic Injury

Farhin Patel et al.

Summary: Research has shown that a combination therapy of probiotics and metformin can help prevent ethanol-induced liver injury by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress and regulating lipid metabolism.

Metformin leads to accumulation of reactive oxygen species by inhibiting the NFE2L1 expression in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells

Shanshan Gou et al.

Summary: Metformin induces ROS accumulation by inhibiting the expression of the core antioxidant transcription factor NFE2L1, which can be reversed by high glucose. The inhibitory effect of metformin on NFE2L1 is AMPK-independent, and NFE2L1 may play a crucial role in regulating the AMPK signaling pathway.
