Wild-type p53 suppresses formin-binding protein-17 (FBP17) to reduce invasion

Prabhat Suman et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel axis between the tumor-suppressor p53 and FBP17 in breast cancer. The expression of FBP17 is correlated with mutant p53 and enhanced p53 accumulation leads to reduced FBP17 expression. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed a correlation between p53 accumulation and enhanced FBP17 staining in invasive ductal carcinomas. Double knockdown experiments revealed the contribution of FBP17 in cancer cell invasion where p53 lost its regulatory control.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Complex roles of discoidin domain receptor tyrosine kinases in cancer

V. Mehta et al.

Summary: Discoidin domain receptors (DDRs) play a critical role in cancer development, where they can promote tumor progression and metastasis, but also have potential as a therapeutic target due to their ability to induce apoptosis and suppress tumor growth in various human cancers.

Design, Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of New 5-(2-Nitrophenyl)-1-aryl-1H-pyrazoles as Topoisomerase Inhibitors

Manpreet Kaur et al.

Summary: 5-(2-Nitrophenyl)-1-aryl-1H-pyrazoles were designed as topoisomerase inhibitors and evaluated for their anticancer properties against breast, lung and colorectal cancer cell lines. Compound 5e demonstrated potential anticancer effects on breast cancer cells at low micromolar concentrations through multiple mechanisms, including ROS reduction and cell cycle arrest. Topoisomerase inhibition assay confirmed the inhibitory activity of 5e against Topo I and Topo II.

Survival analysis across the entire transcriptome identifies biomarkers with the highest prognostic power in breast cancer

Balazs Gyorffy

Summary: This study presents a ranking of all survival-related genes in chemotherapy treated basal and estrogen positive/HER2 negative breast cancer, providing a reference for future biomarker research. By analyzing hazard rates and p values of genes, the most promising prognostic genes can be identified, helping to focus research on candidates with the most clinical significance.
