Ameliorating effect of pomegranate peel extract supplement against type 1 diabetes-induced hepatic changes in the rat: biochemical, morphological and ultrastructural microscopic studies

K. A. J. Faddladdeen

Summary: The study evaluated the therapeutic effect of pomegranate peel extract on hepatic biochemical and histological alterations induced by type 1 diabetes in male rats. Results indicated that PPE could improve degenerative necrotic changes in the liver of diabetic rats and have a moderate therapeutic effect on liver functions, suggesting its potential use for diabetic patients with early liver alterations.

Punicalagin, a pomegranate compound, induces apoptosis and autophagy in acute leukemia

Paweena Subkorn et al.

Summary: Punicalagin showed dose-dependent reduction in cell viability of NB4 and MOLT-4 leukemic cell lines, exhibiting synergistic cytotoxic effects when combined with daunorubicin. It induced apoptosis by upregulating caspase cascade and Bax, while promoting autophagy by downregulating mTOR and upregulating ULK1. Cyclooxygenase-2 and toll-like receptor 4 were found to be involved in punicalagin-induced cell death through protein interactions.
