Recent progress in porous organic polymers and their application for CO2 capture

Jiajia Wang et al.

Summary: Carbon capture, storage, and utilization (CCSU) is an effective method for reducing CO2 emissions. Amine aqueous solutions are efficient for CO2 capture due to their large capacity and high selectivity. However, solid adsorbents have gained attention in recent years for CO2 adsorption due to their simplicity and high efficiency. Porous organic polymers (POPs) have shown promise as solid adsorbents for CO2 capture due to their high surface area, adjustable pore size, and easy functionalization. This review provides a detailed overview of different POPs developed in recent years, discussing their design strategies, unique structures, and highlighting the opportunities and challenges associated with POPs.

Tailoring Crystal Facets of Metal-Organic Layers to Enhance Photocatalytic Activity for CO2 Reduction

Wei Yang et al.

Summary: Different crystal facets in metal and metal oxide nanocrystals often exhibit varied catalytic performances, whereas this phenomenon is rarely seen in metal-organic frameworks. A nickel metal-organic layer with rich (100) crystal facets demonstrates significantly higher photocatalytic CO2-to-CO activity compared to the one with rich (010) crystal facets and its bulky counterpart, due to synergistic catalysis on the surface enabling more favorable energetics in CO2 reduction.

Engineering Atomically Dispersed FeN4 Active Sites for CO2 Electroreduction

Nadia Mohd Adli et al.

Summary: Atomically dispersed FeN4 active sites show exceptional catalytic activity for electrochemical CO2 reduction to CO. Controlling particle size and Fe doping is crucial for optimizing the extrinsic catalytic properties of FeN4 sites, while intrinsic activity can be tuned by varying thermal activation temperatures during FeN4 site formation. Structural evolution of Fe-N bonds plays a key role in understanding the origin of intrinsic activity improvement.

Bifunctional poly(ionic liquid) catalyst with dual-active-center for CO2 conversion: Synergistic effect of triazine and imidazolium motifs

Xu Fang et al.

Summary: The development of a heterogeneous catalyst containing CO2-philic groups and catalytic active sites is highly desirable for efficient CO2 chemical fixation. In this work, a triazine-functionalized poly(ionic liquid) (T-PIL) catalyst showed enhanced CO2 adsorption and improved catalytic ability for the cycloaddition reaction of CO2. Integrated capture and conversion of CO2 into methane using NaNO3/MgO + Ru/Al2O3 as a catalytic sorbent

Sang Jae Park et al.

Summary: Catalytic sorbents were prepared by physically mixing NaNO3/MgO sorbents and Ru/Al2O3 catalysts, and the effectiveness of different preparation methods was evaluated in capturing and converting CO2 to methane. The study indicated that preparing the sorbents with two separate beds led to higher CO2 sorption capacity, while mixing and pelletizing the components decreased the sorption capacity. Investigations into CO2 methanation reaction pathways over different catalysts revealed variations in reaction intermediates and potential reaction mechanisms.
