Legacy brominated flame retardants in human milk from the general population in Beijing, China: Biomonitoring, temporal trends from 2011 to 2018, and nursing infant's exposure assessment

Xuezhen Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that legacy brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in human milk samples from Beijing mainly consisted of TBBPA and HBCDD, with contamination levels of TBBPA and HBCDD steadily increasing from 2011 to 2018, while the contamination of PBDEs sharply decreased in the same period.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers and the multi-element profile of house dust in Croatia: Indoor sources, influencing factors of their accumulation and health risk assessment for humans

Darija Klincic et al.

Summary: Indoor contaminants causing health concerns are reported in this study for the first time in households in Zagreb, Croatia, with focus on PBDE and trace elements levels. Factors such as renovation, electronic device usage, house age, and area are identified as significant predictors for PBDE and trace element concentrations. Health risk assessment indicates no adverse effects for toddlers and adults exposed to PBDE or trace elements in house dust, but there is a potential risk for adverse effects related to cobalt under worst case exposure scenarios.

Optimization and validation of a two-step method for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers in Croatian house dust samples

Karla Jagic et al.

Summary: Microwave-assisted extraction was utilized for extracting PBDE congeners from house dust samples efficiently. By optimizing the experimental conditions and purification steps, the method proved to be successful in achieving accurate and reliable results for the targeted PBDEs in the samples.
