Modeling-Guided Design of Paper Microfluidic Networks: A Case Study of Sequential Fluid Delivery

Dharitri Rath et al.

Summary: Paper-based microfluidic devices are commonly used for multistep chemical or biological sensing, but their design has traditionally relied on trial and error experiments. In this study, a computational design method was successfully demonstrated for a two-dimensional paper network (2DPN) that delivers three fluids to a test zone without the need for experimental trial and error. This new approach paves the way for the development of a computational design toolbox for paper microfluidic networks.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of 20 IgG and IgM assays for detecting SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and developed a user-friendly web app to extrapolate positive predictive values based on accuracy and local prevalence. The lateral flow assays showed a range of sensitivities and specificities, with potential for home testing and monitoring disease prevalence.
