Adaptive laboratory evolution for improved tolerance of isobutyl acetate in Escherichia coli

Morgan M. Matson et al.

Summary: Through adaptive laboratory evolution, E. coli was improved for enhanced tolerance and production of isobutyl acetate (IBA). Mutants with increased acetyl-CoA supply and altered transcriptional machinery were isolated, resulting in a strain capable of producing 3.2-fold more IBA than the parent strain.

Enhancement of angucycline production by combined UV mutagenesis and ribosome engineering and fermentation optimization inStreptomyces dengpaensisXZHG99T

Yumei Li et al.

Summary: The strain improvement of Streptomyces dengpaensis XZHG99(T) was carried out by combining UV mutagenesis and ribosome engineering, along with fermentation optimization to enhance angucycline production. The study yielded mutants with significantly increased titers of rabelomycin and saquayamycin B1 compared to the wild type strain, demonstrating the effectiveness of the combined empirical strain-breeding approaches.

Revealing the salinity adaptation mechanism in halotolerant bacterium Egicoccus halophilus EGI 80432T by physiological analysis and comparative transcriptomics

Dai-Di Chen et al.

Summary: Through physiological and transcriptomic analyses, this study revealed that E. halophilus EGI 80432(T) accumulated compatible solutes such as trehalose and glutamate in response to salt stress under different salt concentrations; under high salt condition, the bacterium's salt adaptation strategy shifted from a salt-in-cytoplasm strategy to a compatible solute strategy.

New 24-Membered Macrolactins Isolated from Marine Bacteria Bacillus siamensis as Potent Fungal Inhibitors against Sugarcane Smut

Chenghai Gao et al.

Summary: Marine-derived Bacillus siamensis secondary metabolites were found to inhibit sugarcane smut caused by Sporisorium scitamineum, with five new 24-membered macrolactins discovered. The most potent inhibitor, compound 3, was shown to affect fungal morphology and cell wall, likely inhibiting S. scitamineum through oxidative phosphorylation and targeting enzymes. Differential proteomics identified eight target proteins involved in the antifungal mechanism, with most participating in the oxidative phosphorylation pathway.
