Dosimetric evaluation of MRI-guided multi-leaf collimator tracking and trailing for lung stereotactic body radiation therapy

Prescilla Uijtewaal et al.

Summary: This study aimed to show the feasibility of MRI-guided tracking and trailing for reducing the impact of respiration during lung SBRT. The research utilized different predictive filter training approaches and found that tracking improved tumor coverage significantly, while trailing effectively mitigated baseline motion influence.

Porcine lung phantom-based validation of estimated 4D-MRI using orthogonal cine imaging for low-field MR-Linacs

Moritz Rabe et al.

Summary: This study experimentally validated a previously proposed propagation method for providing continuous time-resolved estimated 4D-MRI based on orthogonal cine MRI for a low-field MR-Linac. The method accurately estimated 4D motion within the porcine lung phantom, showing potential for treatment planning, real-time motion monitoring, treatment adaptation, and post-treatment evaluation of MR-guided radiotherapy treatments.

Simultaneous multi-slice accelerated 4D-MRI for radiotherapy guidance

K. Keijnemans et al.

Summary: 4D-MRI using SMS technique on 1.5 T MRI scanners has the potential to be a valuable tool for treatment simulation and daily guidance of thoracic and abdominal MR-guided radiotherapy, as demonstrated by the results of this study. The SMS-4D-MRIs showed good tumor visibility and anatomically plausible images, with minimal missing data and accurate peak-to-peak amplitudes analysis. Additionally, the smoothness of the liver-lung interface and the consistency of the deformable vector fields were quantified, further supporting the use of SMS-4D-MRI in clinical practice.

Real-time 3D motion estimation from undersampled MRI using multi-resolution neural networks

Maarten L. Terpstra et al.

Summary: This study aims to enable real-time adaptive magnetic resonance imaging-guided radiotherapy (MRIgRT) by obtaining accurate 3D deformation vector fields (DVFs) with high spatiotemporal resolution and low latency. A multiresolution convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on respiratory-resolved T1-weighted 4D-MRI data achieved accurate motion estimation and spatial acceleration. The model demonstrated robustness and accuracy on digital and physical phantoms, as well as in-vivo scans on volunteers, showcasing its potential for clinical applications.

Volumetric prediction of breathing and slow drifting motion in the abdomen using radial MRI and multi-temporal resolution modeling

Lianli Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates a multi-temporal resolution 3D motion prediction scheme for abdominal organs during radiotherapy. It uses high temporal resolution radial k-space samples for fast breathing motion modeling and lower temporal resolution image time series for slow drifting motion modeling. The results show that the scheme is capable of accurately predicting breathing and slow drifting motion, supporting the potential of MRI-guided abdominal radiotherapy.
