Influence of Isothermal Treatment Prior to Initial Quenching of Q&P Process on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Medium Mn Steel

Ji Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of isothermal treatment before the initial quenching step in the Q&P process of 0.26C - 4.15Mn - 1.39Si steel. The resulting microstructure of the BQ&P processed steel showed a combination of bainitic ferrite, martensite, and retained austenite, with changes in carbon content enhancing the mechanical stability of austenite. By controlling austenite characteristics through isothermal treatment, improvements in tensile elongation and stretch-flangeability were achieved.

Refined heterogeneous phase unit enhances ductility in quenched ultra-high strength steels

Shilong Liu et al.

Summary: Research shows that in ultra-high strength steels, the formation of nanoscale twinned martensite and retained austenite after intercritical annealing and rapid quenching significantly enhances the uniform elongation of the material without compromising ultimate tensile strength.

Cr-alloyed novel press-hardening steel with superior combination of strength and ductility

Xiaolu Wei et al.

Summary: The newly developed PHS steel combines high strength and ductility, attributed to the nano-sized retained austenite formed through dynamic carbon partitioning. The presence of retained austenite improves the uniform and post-uniform elongation of the steel. Additionally, the addition of Si and Cr affects the formation of retained austenite.

Enhanced ductility of as-quenched martensite by highly stable nano-sized austenite

Ji Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, nano-sized austenite particles were produced in as-quenched martensite, improving the tensile properties of advanced high strength steel. The highly stable austenite particles with a persistent TRIP effect contribute to a remarkable improvement in tensile ductility without compromising tensile strength.
