Annealing treatment below austenite start transformation temperature can improve the mechanical properties of martensitic stainless steel by stabilizing retained austenite and increasing its elongation.
The effect of annealing temperature below austenite start transformation temperature on the mechanical properties of martensitic stainless steel was investigated. The annealing treatment can transform the anisotropic compressive stress of retained austenite into hydrostatic pressure, which stabilizes the retained austenite and increases the elongation of the martensitic stainless steel.
