Temperature-dependent yield strength and deformation mechanism of a casting Ni-based superalloy containing low volume-fraction γ′ phase

Kunlei Hou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temperature-dependent yield strength and deformation mechanism of a new casting Ni-based superalloy K4750. The study found that this alloy exhibits yield strength anomaly in the temperature range of 650-750 degrees C. The dominant deformation mechanisms at the initial yielding stage were identified through interrupted samples with approximately 1.0% plastic strain.

The relationship between microstructure evolution and impact toughness degeneration of alloy 617B during long term aging

He Jiang et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the impact toughness degeneration and microstructure evolution of alloy 617B during long-term aging at temperatures of 650-725 degrees Celsius for up to 12,000 hours. It was found that the impact toughness decreases significantly even after just 20 hours of aging within the temperature range, and it continues to decrease as the aging time prolongs. The degeneration of impact toughness is attributed to the combined effect of plasticity evolution and grain boundary carbide coarsening. The degeneration process can be divided into rapid decrease stage, slow decrease stage, and stable stage. Sufficient attention should be paid to the impact toughness degeneration when evaluating long-term stability.

Coarsening kinetics of γ′ precipitates in a Re-containing Ni-based single crystal superalloy during long-term aging

Jiachen Zhang et al.

Summary: The morphological evolution and coarsening kinetics of gamma' precipitates in a Re-containing Ni-based single crystal superalloy were investigated during isothermal aging at different temperatures. Different coarsening models were examined to fit between the experimental results and theoretical analysis, revealing the role of Re and Al diffusion in the rate-limiting steps of coarsening. The coarsening mechanism was divided into four regimes based on the experimental data and predictions of models.

Microstructural evolution and its influence on the impact toughness of GH984G alloy during long-term thermal exposure

Yunsheng Wu et al.

Summary: The impact toughness of the Ni-Fe based alloy GH984G used in ultra-super critical coal-fired power plants decreases rapidly at 700 degrees Celsius during thermal exposure, attributed to the coarsening of M23C6 carbides at grain boundaries. However, with further thermal exposure, the impact toughness remains stable. Additionally, the impact toughness increases with the rise of thermal exposure temperature.

Microstructural stability and tensile properties of a new γ'-hardened Ni-Fe-base superalloy

P. Zhang et al.

Summary: The microstructure and tensile properties of a new gamma'-hardened Ni-Fe-base superalloy HT700T in solutionized state were investigated after thermal exposure at 800 degrees C for different durations. It was found that with increasing aging time, the alloy's yield strength and ultimate tensile strength decreased, while the elongation to fracture increased. The evolution of the microstructural during thermal aging was found to affect the deformation and fracture mechanisms, and consequently the tensile properties of the experimental alloy.
