Energy-Saving Synthesis of Functional CoS2/rGO Interlayer With Enhanced Conversion Kinetics for High-Performance Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Junan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, cobalt disulfide/reduced graphene oxide composites were successfully prepared through a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method and utilized as a functional interlayer on a polypropylene separator to enhance the performance of Li-S batteries. The porous conductive graphene oxide relieved the shuttle effect of polysulfides, while the polar cobalt disulfide nanoparticles on the graphene oxide provided strong chemical adsorption to capture polysulfides. This combination led to improved conversion kinetics and excellent electrochemical performance in Li-S batteries.

A review on electronically conducting polymers for lithium-sulfur battery and lithium-selenium battery: Progress and prospects

Hengying Xiang et al.

Summary: Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries and lithium-selenium (Li-Se) batteries are seen as the next generation of high energy density electrochemical energy storage systems due to their outstanding theoretical specific capacities and high energy densities. The application of electronically conducting polymers, such as polyaniline (PANI) and polythiophene (PTh) derivatives, has significantly alleviated the issues of poor conductivity and the "shuttle effect" in Li-S/Se batteries, providing a pathway for their practical use in the short term.

High-Performance Lithium Sulfur Batteries Based on Multidimensional Graphene-CNT-Nanosulfur Hybrid Cathodes

Alvaro Donoro et al.

Summary: The optimized multidimensional graphene-sulfur-CNT hybrid cathode shows superior specific capacity, rate performance, coulombic efficiency, and cycling stability compared to the reference cathode. This is attributed to the encapsulation of nanosulfur between the individual layers of graphene nanoplatelets with high electronic conductivity, and effective polysulfide trapping by MWCNT bundles.
