Microstructure and mechanical properties of ultrasonic spot welding TiNi/Ti6Al4V dissimilar materials using pure Al coating

Jilin Xie et al.

Summary: Ultrasonic spot welding of dissimilar Ti6Al4V and TiNi SMA joints with an Al coating interlayer was investigated, showing successful joining can be achieved by selecting proper welding pressure. Intermetallic compounds were formed in the joints, and the tensile shear loads varied with welding pressure.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of dissimilar NiTi/Ti6Al4V joints via back-heating assisted friction stir welding

Huaibo Deng et al.

Summary: The feasibility of dissimilar NiTi/Ti6Al4V joints fabricated via friction stir welding was confirmed through conventional and back-heating assisted process. The back-heating method resulted in defect-free joints with higher microhardness in the special area with Ti2Ni intermetallic compounds formation. Additionally, brittle Ti2Ni IMCs were identified as the main factor deteriorating the mechanical properties of the joints.

Laser processing of multiple surface characteristics for Ti6Al4V biomedical implants

Nakul D. Ghate et al.

Summary: This study focuses on processing multiple surface characteristics using laser surface modification, with experiments conducted under a wide range of process parameters. Results show that different combinations of process parameters can achieve comparable combinations of surface characteristics with similar modified heat input parameters. It demonstrates that multiple surface characteristics can be processed together to meet implant-specific requirements, fully utilizing the potential of laser surface modification process.
