Geochronology, geochemistry and Sr-Nd, Hf-O isotope systematics of the Linte massif, Adamawa - Yade domain, Cameroon: Implications on the evolution of the Central African Fold Belt

Bovari Syprien Yomeun et al.

Summary: The Central African Fold Belt plays a significant role in understanding the Pan-African orogeny in central Africa. The study of the Linte massif in the Adamawa-Yade region provides valuable geological information, revealing a protracted magmatism and indicating a subduction-collision setting. The rocks have predominantly crustal sources with minor mantle components, suggesting a continuation of tectonic features into the western Gondwana.

New Insights into Neoproterozoic-Cretaceous Events in the Mamfe Basin (SW Cameroon, Central Africa): Evidence from Textural Analyses, U-Th Composition, and U-Pb Zircon Geochronology from Granitic Basement

Nguo S. Kanouo et al.

Summary: Zircons from the Nkogho granitic basement rocks in the Mamfe Basin of SW Cameroon were analyzed for BSE-CL images, U-Th abundance, and U-Pb ages. The zircons mainly exhibit complex oscillatory growth zoning and sector zoning, with most values falling within the range of crustal granitic zircons. The U-Pb ages indicate events dating back to the Early Neoproterozoic to Aptian-Albian times.

Summary: This study focuses on the characteristics, sources, evolution, and tectonic control of shoshonitic and silica-saturated ultrapotassic rock associations formed in South America. The magmas are mainly derived from mantle sources including phlogopite, and different types of plutonic rocks are formed through various processes.

Neoproterozoic syn-collision magmatism in the Nkondjock region at the northern border of the Congo craton in Cameroon: Geodynamic implications for the Central African orogenic belt

M. S. Kamguia Kamani et al.

Summary: The Nkondjock area in Western Cameroon, located at the northern border of the Congo craton, consists of two-mica orthogneisses, two-pyroxene orthogneisses and mylonitic orthogneisses, with protoliths dating back to the Neoproterozoic era. The presence of adakite-like geochemical affinities in the orthogneisses suggests partial melting of thickened lower crust with mantle input, while granitoids in the area display characteristics of melts derived from mature continental crust. Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes confirm a heterogeneous source for these rocks, indicating mixing between juvenile mafic melt and a mature continental crust during the orogenic belt's evolution.

Petrology and geochemistry of the Pan-African high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic-adakitic Bape plutonic suites (Adamawa-Yade block, Cameroon): evidence of a hot oceanic crust subduction

Jacqueline Numbem Tchakounte et al.

Summary: The Bape massif in the Adamawa-Yade block is an important case study for the evolution of the Pan-African orogenic belt in Cameroon. The rocks in the area are rich in Ba-Sr and show characteristics of high-K calc-alkaline, shoshonitic series. Multiple origins for the granitoids in the Bape massif are suggested, including melting of a dehydrated subducting crust or mixing of different liquids.

The enigmatic continental crust of North-Central Africa: Saharan Metacraton or Central Sahara Shield?

J. G. Shellnutt

Summary: The continental crust in North-Central Africa poses a mystery due to limited bedrock exposures, particularly in the central region. While it was previously believed to be a coherent craton, new data suggests it may actually be a composite terrane of older cratonic blocks or microcontinents. These findings challenge existing lithotectonic paradigms and call for further research to fully characterize the crust of the central Sahara region.
