Laser Direct Writing of Graphene Quantum Dots inside a Transparent Polymer

Shuichiro Hayashi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the simultaneous synthesis and patterning of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) inside a transparent polymer using femtosecond laser pulses. The proposed method allows for direct and spatially selective patterning of GQDs, expanding their potential applications in novel flexible three-dimensional optoelectrical devices.

Key role of surface plasmon polaritons in generation of periodic surface structures following single-pulse laser irradiation of a gold step edge

Pavel N. Terekhin et al.

Summary: Understanding and controlling the mechanisms of surface nanostructuring is essential for both fundamental science and practical applications. In this study, we directly observed laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) near a predesigned gold step edge using single-pulse femtosecond laser irradiation. Simulation results based on an atomistic-continuum model support our experimental findings. We identified the excitation of surface plasmon polaritons and material reorganization as key components in the formation of single-pulse LIPSS. These results provide a solid foundation for the simple and efficient use of light in innovative material processing technologies.

From Fano to Quasi-BIC Resonances in Individual Dielectric Nanoantennas

Elizaveta Melik-Gaykazyan et al.

Summary: There is a close connection between Fano and quasi-BIC resonances in high-index dielectric nanostructures, which show great potential for applications in nanoscale lasers and sensors. Our experimental results demonstrate the relationship and suggest a unified approach for analyzing sharp resonances in subwavelength nanostructures.

Extremely regular periodic surface structures in a large area efficiently induced on silicon by temporally shaped femtosecond laser

Yuchan Zhang et al.

Summary: Femtosecond laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) have various applications in surface structuring and functionalization. This study successfully fabricated extremely regular low-spatial-frequency LIPSS (LSFL) on a silicon surface using a temporally shaped femtosecond laser, achieving higher efficiency and deeper structures.

Deep-Subwavelength 2D Periodic Surface Nanostructures on Diamond by Double-Pulse Femtosecond Laser Irradiation

Matteo Mastellone et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates, for the first time, the achievement of two-dimensional laser-induced periodic surface structures with deep-subwavelength periodicity on diamond surfaces. The method involves using two temporally delayed and cross-polarized femtosecond-laser pulses to achieve distinctive nanotexturing, which can be controlled by varying the number of pulses. The effective treatment of large areas of diamond surfaces under scanning mode leads to significantly enhanced absorptance in the visible range, paving the way for the development of metasurfaces for future diamond-based optoelectronic devices.
