Effect of an Amyloidogenic SARS-COV-2 Protein Fragment on α-Synuclein Monomers and Fibrils

Asis K. Jana et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of amyloidogenic regions in SARS-COV-2 proteins in the aggregation of alpha-synuclein. Using molecular dynamics simulations, the authors find that a viral protein fragment, SK9, may promote alpha-synuclein amyloid formation by shifting its conformational ensemble. However, SK9 has little effect on the stability of pre-existing or newly formed fibrils. The study provides insights into potential virus-induced amyloid formation.

Small Peptides for Inhibiting Serum Amyloid A Aggregation

Asis K. Jana et al.

Summary: Deposition of SAA amyloids in blood vessels can lead to inflammation, thrombosis, and organ damage, making the development of drugs targeting SAA amyloidosis crucial. Through extensive all-atom molecular dynamic simulations, DRI-SAA1-5 has shown promising inhibitory properties, suggesting it as a potential candidate for such drugs.

Phenylalanine Interacts with Oleic Acid-Based Vesicle Membrane. Understanding the Molecular Role of Fibril-Vesicle Interaction under the Context of Phenylketonuria

Sourav Nandi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characterization and photophysics of various assemblies of oleic acid/oleate solution at different pH values. The interaction between L-phenylalanine assemblies and oleic acid vesicle membrane was found to alter the dynamic properties of the vesicle membrane. The findings suggest that alterations in membrane properties should be considered in the development of therapeutic modulators for disorders like PKU.
