Reflected Laser Interferometry: A Versatile Tool to Probe Condensation of Low-Surface-Tension Droplets

Sirshendu Misra et al.

Summary: By utilizing reflection interference contrast microscopy in confocal mode, a noninvasive framework has been developed for accurately capturing the condensation dynamics of low-surface-tension volatile liquids. This framework successfully describes the growth mechanism of condensed microdroplets and the three-phase contact angle, showing excellent quantitative agreement with theoretically predicted trends.

Profiling a soft solid layer to passively control the conduit shape in a compliant microchannel during flow

Pratyaksh Karan et al.

Summary: This study proposes an alternative passive method to tune the elastohydrodynamics in a microsystem in order to achieve a predetermined flow geometry during flow, using a nonlinear differential equation for soft coating's fluid-solid interface to achieve specific conduit shapes. Slip length patterning on the rigid bottom wall of the microchannel is explored as an additional tool for shape control, but found to be weaker in practice.

Bouncing-to-wetting transition of water droplets impacting soft solids

Surjyasish Mitra et al.

Summary: The research shows that liquid droplets impact more air on soft surfaces and observes the phenomenon of dimple inversion causing rupture of the air film, affecting the bouncing behavior of the droplets.
