Numerical study of the runout behavior of the Kamenziwan landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir region, China

Bing Li et al.

Summary: This study uses the discrete element method to analyze the runout behavior of the Kamenziwan landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir region. Through field survey and numerical modeling, the geological characteristics, failure mechanism, and runout behavior of the landslide are analyzed. The findings are of great importance for landslide risk assessment.

Numerical modelling of rheological properties of landslide debris

Arunava Ray et al.

Summary: This study simulated and calibrated debris flow in a laboratory setting, validated with a case study of the Varunavat landslide, and evaluated the impact of various factors on debris flow. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the debris flow was conducted, along with an examination of the role of retaining walls in mitigating debris flow.

Modeling the landslide-generated debris flow from formation to propagation and run-out by considering the effect of vegetation

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the formation and propagation processes of landslide-generated debris flows in vegetated areas by considering the effects of vegetation. The proposed comprehensive model effectively described the behaviors of each stage in the process and analyzed the roles of vegetation in different stages.

Effects of bed longitudinal inflexion and sediment porosity on basal entrainment mechanism: insights from laboratory debris flows

Pu Li et al.

Summary: Channel morphology and bed sediment erodibility are crucial factors affecting debris flow entrainment processes. Experimental observations show that sediment entrainment accelerates as erosion points appear, and lower bed sediment porosity increases bed sediment resistance to erosion. High topographic reliefs in non-uniform channels may indicate the propensity of triangular slab erosion.

UAV photogrammetry-based remote sensing and preliminary assessment of the behavior of a landslide in Guizhou, China

Zhan Cheng et al.

Summary: The UAV photogrammetry technique is widely used in geohazards assessment, demonstrated through a case study of a landslide in Guizhou, China which revealed the failure mechanism and evolution behavior. An automatic crack recognition model based on deep learning is developed to map cracks at the landslide site and validate through quantitative comparisons. The UAV images aid in identifying elements at risk and conducting a preliminary consequence assessment in potentially impacted zones.

Geomorphic effect of debris-flow sediments on the Min River, Wenchuan Earthquake region, western China

Hu Xu-dong et al.

Summary: The study on the Min River segment after the Wenchuan earthquake revealed significant impacts of debris-flow sediment on the river characteristics, such as the decrease in channel gradient, changes in channel width, and increased river curvature. This temporal and spatial variation between river morphological characteristics and debris-flow sediments in short-term provides valuable insights for natural hazards management to prevent river blockage by episodic debris flows after earthquakes.

Landslides and fluvial response to landsliding induced by the 1933 Diexi earthquake, Minjiang River, eastern Tibetan Plateau

Lanxin Dai et al.

Summary: This study integrated modern LiDAR data, historical records, and unique archival photographs to compile an inventory of aftershock landslides in the epicentral region of the 1933 Diexi earthquake. The findings reveal that the earthquake-triggered landslides were mainly of rock/debris fall/avalanche type, resulting in significant debris detachment from steep mountain ridge sources.
