The long-term implications of access complications during endovascular aneurysm repair

Thomas F. X. O'Donnell et al.

Summary: This study examined the occurrence and associated factors of access complications in endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), revealing a strong correlation between access complications and female sex, age, low body mass index, smoking, dual antiplatelet therapy, among others. Patients who experienced access complications were found to have a significantly higher risk of perioperative death and long-term mortality.

Women have similar mortality but higher morbidity than men after elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

Summary: After EVAR, female patients are more likely to require return to the operating room, have longer lengths of hospital stay, more days in the ICU, and be discharged to rehabilitation facilities more often compared to male patients.

Differences in Comorbidities Between Women and Men Treated with Elective Repair for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

V. N. Tedjawirja et al.

Summary: A systematic review found that women have a higher 30-day mortality risk than men after elective abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, which may be related to differences in comorbidities. Despite having fewer baseline comorbidities, women are significantly older at the time of surgery and face a higher risk of mortality.

Differences in coronary artery disease and outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents in women and men

Antonio Greco et al.

Summary: Despite the common belief that coronary artery disease is primarily a male-centric condition, sex-based disparities exist in various aspects, including outcomes after PCI with stent implantation. While new-generation DES have improved clinical outcomes, there is a lack of sex-specific guidelines due to limited participation of women in clinical trials. Improved performances of DES are narrowing the sex gap in PCI outcomes, and ongoing gender initiatives and sex-specific trials aim to address current issues in the field.
