Free Energies of Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer Reagents and Their Applications

Rishi G. Agarwal et al.

Summary: This paper provides an update and revision to a 2010 review on proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) reagent thermochemistry, correcting systematic errors and presenting updated tables of thermochemical values. It discusses new conclusions and opportunities arising from the assembled data and techniques, emphasizing the importance of updated thermochemical cycles in PCET reactions for calculation and measurement of Gibbs free energies. Additionally, the paper introduces several emerging fields in PCET thermochemistry, highlighting the diversity of research being conducted in this rapidly growing field.

Substrate Specific Metal-Ligand Cooperative Binding: Considerations for Weak Intramolecular Lewis Acid/Base Pairs

John J. Kiernicki et al.

Summary: In a series of zinc bis(thiophenoxide) complexes, metal-ligand cooperative binding modes were investigated. A weak B-S binding interaction was observed in solution between the weakly Lewis basic thiophenoxide ligands and an appended trialkylborane, with the energy of this binding event dependent on the strength of the Lewis acid and its proximity to the zinc thiophenoxide.

Summary: A series of zerovalent iron complexes containing allylic substituents attached to a 2,6-bis(imidazol-2-ylidene)pyridine pincer ligand were synthesized to study the requirements and limitations of late-stage hydroboration. Complicating factors arising from complexes containing labile M-L bonds were identified and discussed.

Copper-Ligand Cooperativity in H2 Activation Enables the Synthesis of Copper Hydride Complexes

Alicia Aloisi et al.

Summary: Copper(I) complexes of a new participative triphosphane ligand (2(H)) were prepared and characterized structurally. Hydrogenation of the complexes led to the formation of trimetallic hydride species [Cu-3(2)(2)(mu-H)] or [Cu(2(H))(HBEt3)]. The complex [Cu(2(H))(HBEt3)] acted as a hydride complex and inserted CO2 to produce the formate product [Cu(2(H))(O2CH)].
