An Application Placement Technique for Concurrent IoT Applications in Edge and Fog Computing Environments

Mohammad Goudarzi et al.

Summary: This article proposes a weighted cost model to minimize the execution time and energy consumption of IoT applications in a computing environment with multiple IoT devices, multiple fog/edge servers, and cloud servers. Additionally, a new application placement technique based on the Memetic Algorithm is introduced for making batch application placement decisions for concurrent IoT applications. The results show that this technique significantly improves the weighted cost of IoT applications up to 65 percent compared to its counterparts.

IoTSim-Osmosis: A framework for modeling and simulating IoT applications over an edge-cloud continuum

Khaled Alwasel et al.

Summary: The osmotic computing paradigm aims to simplify the deployment of IoT applications in edge-cloud environments, but existing simulation frameworks cannot directly support its complexity, hence the proposal of the IoTSim-Osmosis simulation framework. This new framework is the first to enable unified modeling and simulation of complex IoT applications over heterogeneous edge-cloud environments.
